Laura A. Ryder, of Lynbrook, represents the Fourth Councilmanic District, bringing a lifetime of experience in working with people in government, civic groups, Chambers of Commerce and other community organizations. She previously served as a trustee with the Village of Lynbrook from March 2021 until her appointment to the Hempstead Town Board in March 2023. Ryder works as a paralegal at the law firm of Ledwith and Atkinson, and as a real estate agent for Pearsall Partners Realty, LLC.
Ryder is beloved in Lynbrook and in neighboring communities, namely for her volunteer work and humanitarian efforts in helping fellow residents in need. As a trustee in the Village of Lynbrook, Ryder helped organize many of the village’s most popular events. She also worked with her village board colleagues to create additional housing that fits the character of the community, worked to bring several new businesses to the village and ensured that neighborhood police, fire and emergency personnel have the tools they need to serve the community.
Ryder was elected to the Lynbrook Village Board in March 2021, where she helped the board manage village finances and day-to-day operations amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Previously, she served on the South Nassau Water Authority and the American Water Company Community Outreach Committee, where she worked to oversee and address exorbitant rates and service provided by a local utility company. What’s more, Ryder represented Lynbrook on the Nassau County Police Commissioner’s Council.
Ryder is the founder and chairperson of the Lynbrook Cares Committee, managing a group of volunteers who help elderly residents and people with disabilities with shoveling snow, landscaping and other tasks. She also volunteers her time with the Lynbrook Community Chest, providing financial assistance to village residents experiencing difficult times. Other humanitarian efforts include serving on the Lynbrook 9-11 Memorial Committee, Christopher’s Hemophilia Benefit Committee, Lynbrook Beautification Committee, Vice President of the Malverne School District SEPTA, and many more.
Ryder was named Nassau Citizens United 2018 Finest Influential Woman of the Year, Lynbrook 2014 Woman of the Year and Lynbrook 2018 Humanitarian of the Year.
Laura is married to her husband, Mike, and they have two children, Shannon and Aidan.
